Consumer Advisory: Direct Vent Gas Appliances
The Division of Professional Licensure and the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters are issuing an advisory to consumers who may have direct vent gas appliances in their house or property.
Walk around the property and locate where these appliances vent out of the house.
Clear any obstructions such as lawn furniture, grills, snow etc....
During a snow storm and after the storm always clear the vent from being covered with snow.
Install a carbon monoxide detector, one that comes equipped with battery power back up in case there is a loss of power.

General contractors, electrical contractors, electricians, their employees, and other persons performing work in proximity to overhead electric lines must take precautions and observe the prohibitions prescribed by Federal (OSHA) and Massachusetts State law:

Commonwealth of Massachusetts: MGL Chapter 166 Section 21A- 21F, prohibits anyone from performing any type of work “Within six (6) feet of any overhead high voltage lines” without having promptly notified, and made satisfactory arrangements with, the appropriate utility company. These laws apply to persons or entities not covered by OSHA jurisdiction. In every case in which work needs to be performed near electric lines, National Grid must be contacted prior to the beginning of work.

Commonwealth of Massachusetts: MGL Chapter 166 Section 21G. Violation; Penalties; Liability
Section 21G.
(a) Whoever violates any of the provisions of sections twenty-one A to twenty-one F, inclusive shall be punished by a fine of not less than one hundred dollars, nor more than one thousand dollars, or by imprisonment for not more than one year, or BOTH.
(b) If a violation of any of the provisions of section twenty-one A to twenty-one F, inclusive, results in physical or electrical contact with any overhead high voltage line, the person, firm, corporation, or association violating said provisions shall be liable to the owner or operator of such high voltage line for all damages resulting from such contact and for all liability incurred by such owner or operator as a result of any such contact.

Actual changes will be determined by consultation with company and the inspection authority having jurisdiction and must approve work before the company will connect to the customers equipment.
605. Assigning Location of Service and Metering Equipment page 57
The location of service and metering equipment shall be assigned by the company. No wiring dependent upon service-entrance and meter location shall be started until these locations have been assigned with approval by the company and the inspection authority having jurisdiction. Company needs 10-day advance notification for location.
